Coach Slessinger's Quotes Following Monday's Win Over Nicholls

RECAP | GAME BOOK (PDF)

Overall thoughts on the game

"We're excited and I'm excited for the team, most importantly. This is a good affirmation of all the hard work they're putting into it and I'm really proud of them. We played unselfishly offensively tonight and only had one or two bad or forced shots that weren't really acceptable. They executed the game plan that the coaches gave them. [Assistant] coach [Jody] Bailey did a great job with the scouting report and the staff did a good job of preparing them tonight for this game. It was good to see them sit down and guard against a tough team to play against defensively."

On facing the league's blocked shots leader in seven-foot Liam Thomas
"He's very skilled and very good. He had a good first half. And [Kyle] Caudill is huge. He's a mountain of a human being. If he gets in there and gets it, he's tough to stop. They did a good job of that, but I thought our team did a good job of being in the right places at the right times to get deflections and force turnovers."

On four players finishing with double-digit point totals
"We had very unselfish play across the board tonight. We found guys in the right places. They executed offensively and this is a tough team to score against. To be 86 percent from the foul line tonight was good and it was good for us to get back on track from the foul line. Guys are working hard at it. We just have to keep working to turn the corner on that."

On opening a stretch of six road contests over a seven-game span
"We know it's a tough stretch. We're halfway through the run now, sort of in the back half of the marathon. In the second half of marathon, we're going to have to be a heck of a lot tougher than we were in the first half. We know we'll have to be ready for some incredible road tests and we're going to have to win in some tough road environments in this league."
