GAME RECAP | GAME BOOK (PDF)Overall thoughts on the game"It was an amazing back-and-forth game and the outcome, obviously was not what we wanted. I wish I had some profound statement for what happened, but they threw in a crazy, over-the-shoulder, half-court bank shot. It wasn't a set play. There was a scrum on the floor after a loose ball, they threw it up and it banked in. My heart breaks for the team's effort and their attitude. They continued to fight through adversity the whole night with [Michael] Zeno fouling out and [Travin] Thibodeaux fouling out after both playing solid games with incredible energy. It's just a real hard one to swallow, but that's basketball. It was a great game, and I'm not going to take anything away from ACU. It was a good game on both sides and it's hard to say anything negative. Both teams laid it on the line today, they played with a lot of heart and a lot of effort. If it was us that made the bank shot, I would have said the same thing."
On sophomore wing Michael Zeno's first career double-double"He played with great energy and great heart the whole day. I was really pleased with his effort and his attitude. He came out and really laid it all on the line today."
In the performance of junior guard Nate Frye"He was good for a lot of it. He did a lot of really good things and was able to get the ball in there. He was in attack mode off the ball screen against some guys. I thought he could have gotten to the line a lot more than he did. They were pretty physical with him in there. He came up with some big-man rebounds and really did a good job."
On the role fouls played in today's game"They went on a little run in the second half when we had some foul trouble, We had some different lineups out there. We were trying to buy time with Travin and we were trying to buy time with Erik off and on. It was unfortunate about how all of that played out and we weren't able to finish. We had some big efforts from guys. Erik was playing with one hand, finished 5-for-8 and had 10 points still. This is a hard one. Our kids worked awfully hard today."
On the upcoming game at Nicholls"It's always a hard place to play. We know from being on the road, and this is the last of the four, and we'd like to make sure we close out our shot and get a better idea of where we'll be going into the last two [games]. It's definitely a must win for us from all aspects. We know they're going to be ready to play. It'll be a great rivalry game for us. We'll travel back [tomorrow] and get ready to travel again [on Monday]."
Closing comment"The one thing that can't be defeated is our attitude. We have to have an undefeated attitude, just keep grinding and keep working. You're not going to get any better if you don't work at it. We're going to keep grinding. The guys were very, very frustrated. They were disappointed. They were hurt. It was one of those crazy basketball games and you get them now and again."
