NEW ORLEANS - University of New Orleans former men's basketball standouts,
Troy Green and
Derek St. Hilaire, signed to NBA G League training camp rosters, the teams announced Saturday.
Green joins the Birmingham Squadron, a New Orleans Pelicans affiliate, while St. Hilaire heads west to the South Bay Lakers, a Los Angeles Lakers affiliate. The former dynamic duo played together for two years; both earning All-Southland First-Team status.
"They have worked tirelessly to earn these opportunities with two incredible organizations. We look forward to watching them as they continue to make our program, university, and city of New Orleans so proud," said Head Coach
Mark Slessinger.
"They have made huge strides over their time here at UNO, but above all they are both tremendous young men."
Additionally, Green was named Second-Team All-Louisiana after the 2021-22 season scoring 16.6 points per game. The St. Rose native started 30 of the Privateers 32 games last year and finished top-10 in the Southland in steals per game (2nd), points per game (4th), free throw percentage (4th), defensive rebounds (5th), field goal percentage (5th) and rebounding (9th).
He finished his collegiate career first in New Orleans program history in games played with 150, second in both free throws made (530) and steals (193), third in points scored (1,834), and fifth in assists (385).
St. Hilaire averaged 20.1 PPG for the Privateers last season leading them to an 18-14 record, with the most wins since 2019. The All-Southland selection's PPG average was good for 17th best in the NCAA – with 22 games of 20-plus points this season. St. Hilaire also competed in the 2022 College Slam Dunk Contest.
The two will reunite January 5, 2023, but this time, as opponents. The South Bay Lakers will take on the Birmingham Squadron at home in the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, CA.
