Seven Freshmen + Six Seniors = Great Team Chemistry

Seven Freshmen + Six Seniors = Great Team Chemistry
Amanda McCarthy (November 7, 2009)

I am proud to say the Lady Privateers are one week closer to our season opener.  This week, just like all the other weeks has been one of growth, hard work, and patience. Patience is certainly a virtue. I think it is safe to say the coaching staff and upperclassmen have certainly had more than enough patience with the unexpected seven.

This week, we had weight lifting on Monday and Wednesday morning and practice Monday through Thursday from 12:45 to 3:00. On Friday, we had the annual Blue and White Scrimmage to tip off the season. Congratulations to the Blue team on capturing a win! The Lady Privateers would like to sincerely thank everyone who came out to show their support Friday afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at our games this season!

Along with the regular practices and lifts this week, some of the players and coaches gave media interviews. The most common question for everyone who spoke with the media this week was, “There are seven freshman and six seniors on this team how does that affect the team chemistry?”  Some would view this age diversity as an adversity. We, on the other hand, take it as a blessing. I am pleased to say that when asked this question, our most common answers  are -  we have developed unbelievable chemistry in such a short time period, we are like sisters with the big sister little sister society, and that the seniors have been wonderful role models for the freshmen.

The Big Sister Little Sister Groups are as follow: Candice McGee and Amanda McCarthy, Ashley Gorsh and Juanita Cochran, Brittany Helm and Talisha Bridges, Nicole Holmes and Tiffina Bennett, Talishia Young and Chaniese Turner, Rachele Monroe and D'Mesha Hewett, and last but not least, Kathy Kassabian and Mirjam Sipos.

With that said, this week I am going to take you inside the big sister little sister bond of Rachele Monroe and D'Mesha Hewett.
I asked both Rachele and D'Mesha a few individual questions and then two questions about each other.

The questions were:

1. What's your favorite food? Rachele answered ice cream and D'Mesha answered seafood.
2. What's your favorite sports team? Rachele answered Iowa Hawkeyes and D'Mesha answered UConn Women's Basketball.
3. What's your favorite song? Rachele answered “So Small” by Carrie Underwood and D'Mesha answered “Love Lost” by Trey Songs.
4. What's your favorite Movie? Rachele answered Hoosiers and D'Mesha answered all the Fridays!
5. I asked each of them what they liked about the other one's game. Rachele answered D'Mesha's ability to penetrate and D'Mesha answered Rachele's three point stroke.
6. I asked each of them what they heard the other one say the most. Rachele answered, “D'Mesha always says, 'Hold up it's your girl D' when she's rapping.” D'Mesha answered she always hears Rachele say, “I have to go study!”

The Big Sister Little Sister program further strengthens the team bond of this year's Lady Privateers.

Until next time, GO LADY PRIVATEERS!!
