Season Opener Exhibits Chemistry and Confidence (Nov. 17, 2009)
Today, the Lady Privateers finished our last practice before our home
opener tomorrow night, the 18th, at 7:00 P.M. against Nicholls State.
This week in practice we learned how important it is to bluff and retreat on dribble penetration when our opponent will shoot from virtually anywhere on the court. Also, we learned how important it is to slip screens when our opponent doubles on the ball screens. Lastly, we learned how important it is for us to execute our game plan because when we execute our offenses and our defenses we control the tempo and momentum of the game.
On Saturday, the Lady Privateers traveled to Lake Charles where we opened the season up against McNeese State. I'm happy to report the bus ride was far less bumpy than the bus ride to Alabama for our retreat. I'm even happier to report that we got a win! In the words of Coach Champion, “Amen, we are 1-0!” I think that's how Coach Champ said it in the locker room, give or take a few words!
Anyone can read a box score and make their own judgments about our team and the game we just played, but I'm here to tell you the Lady Privateers recognize there is always room for improvement which is why we look to learn and improve individually and collectively taking each day one at a time. I must say that one column on the box score sticks out to me. Our assist column is a testament to everything I have written in my previous blogs about our team's chemistry and confidence in one another. Having eighteen assists only further proves our sharing that we provide one another and our support that we give one another.
I would like to personally thank Manager Guy Giliberti at the Kenner Olive Garden restaurant for his wholehearted service and abundant hospitality. The Lady Privateers continually look to foster open communication and support with local businesses, restaurants and schools.
The Lady Privateers hope that you will show your support and come out to the Lakefront Arena for a game or two this season!
In the words of Coach Carter, “GO BIG BLUE WHAT YOU GONNA DO!”
