From Finals to the Start of Conference (Dec. 16, 2009)

Lady Privateer friends, family, and fans, it's been a while since my last blog. I do apologize, but my academics come first. As many of you know, we just finished up finals week. Honestly, the last time I saw the Lady Privateers this happy was when we graduated from Champ's Boot Camp!

Four of our seniors are particularly happy and congratulations are in order. Senior Rachele Monroe worked endlessly in the classroom this semester and finished with all A's! And last but not least, three of our seniors, Ashley Gorsh, Brittany Helm, and Nicole Holmes passed the proficiency exam, which is an English exam required to graduate from this University. I commend all of you on your hard work.

This past week we exemplified teamwork at its finest, whether it was helping each other finish final papers, studying together in study groups, or accompanying one another to the library for a quiet place to study. As our first conference game comes tonight, our teamwork will certainly be tested. I can't stress enough though that when we are tested, we must remember the times when our strength as a unit has emerged, such as the time we finished boot camp, the retreat weekend, and finals week when our teamwork hit on all cylinders.

To exemplify our unity at all times, Coach Champ presented all of us with a blue bracelet which we will wear on our left wrist at all times unless we are playing a game. These bracelets give us all something in common that is only unique to our team so that we may always be together even when we are apart. It is an honor and a privilege to wear this bracelet and be a part of this team.

Bracelets aren't the only things the Lady Privateers have gotten in the last week. Our team is doing a secret Santa gift swap.  Everyone has been at the mall trying to find a gift for their secret Santa. Some of us have gotten gifts, and others are struggling to find something adequate. Come Sunday, everyone better have their gift for their secret Santa person because we will all gather at Coach Champ's house for our Lady Privateer Christmas party where we will exchange gifts. I'm eager to see what everyone gets!

Now that classes and finals are over, the Lady Privateers have been spending a little extra time in the gym working on post moves, shooting form, and ball handling. I personally invite you all to come watch as the Lady Privateers' intensity on the basketball court skyrockets as we become maniacal in our quest to win our conference games.

Until next time, GO BIG BLUE!!!
