NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Track and Field program has made the trip to the Birmingham Crossplex in Alabama for the third time this season as they prepare for the 2023 Southland Indoor Championships on Sunday and Monday.
Both the men's and women's programs are looking to build on back-to-back "best ever" finishes at the Southland Indoor Championships. Two years ago, the Privateer men finished in eighth place with 40 points before finishing in fourth place with 97 points last season. The women finished the 2021 Southland Indoor Championships in fifth place with a then-best 49 points before finishing in fifth with 78 points last season.
New Orleans has won nine individual events so far heading into the Championships, with

Sarinity Bracey (6th 60m Hurdles),
Javier Montero Castillejo (10th Mile),
Kelvin Chiku (3rd 800m),

Rebecca DeKay (8th 3000m),
Jaden Forester (1st Mile, 5th 3000m, 7th 800m),
Vivette Green (3rd 60m),
Ryan Guenthner (10th 3000m),
Matthew Hansen (6th 3000m, 8th Mile),
Helen Baumgarten (5th 60m Hurdles),
Aisha Johnson (9th 60m),
Cade Litolff (7th Mile),
Anna Martin (9th Mile),
Tshwanelo Maruping (6th Mile),
Kolyn Saltzman (1st 3000m),
Jayden Sloan (6th 400m),
Nicholaus Smith (7th Triple Jump, 10th Long Jump),
Alexandra Weir (1st 3000m, 3rd Mile, 4th 800m) all possessing top-10 marks in the Southland heading into the Championships.
