NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans junior
Kyle Bennett is set to become the second student-athlete in school history to participate in the U.S Amateur when he tees off Monday morning at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colorado.
The Zachary native will join former teammate
Grayson Gilbert – who played in the event two years ago – as the only Div. I era UNO golfers to participate in the prestigious U.S Amateur when he tees off at 8:11 a.m tomorrow. Bennett grabbed the second automatic qualifying spot on July 10 at Beaver Country Club after finishing with a 7-under-par score of 135.
FORMAT
Three hundred and twelve of the nation's best amateur golfers will begin the competition with 36-holes of stroke play over Monday and Tuesday, with the top 64 making the cut. The rounds of 64, 32, and 16 will be decided via match play on Wednesday and Thursday. The quarterfinals will take place on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday will crown the winner of the 123rd U.S Amateur.
THE COURSES
The tournament is split between two courses. Cherry Hills Country Club will share stroke-play hosting duties with Colorado Golf Club. All match play will take place at Cherry Hills Country Club.

During stroke play Kyle will be paired with Andrew Paysse - who plays collegiately at Texas A&M - and Herme Wibe Sekne - who plays collegiately at Purdue.
