Piyanart Engineer

Piyanart Engineer enters her ninth season for the New Orleans Privateers as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach.

For Engineer and the Privateers women's team that was short in number (six total players), the team started by capturing the women's team title at the Big Easy Classic in the fall. A strong spring saw a nine-win turnaround from the previous year and a first round upset of 2-seed, Stephen F. Austin in the Southland tournament.

In 2013-14, Engineer helped guide two Privateers women's tennis players to all-conference and all-Louisiana honors in Soledad Calderon Arroyo and Marta Sans. Calderon and Sans teamed up to earn second-team All Southland doubles honors and Calderon was named second-team All Southland in singles.

Engineer came to New Orleans with a strong foundation of success which started 28 years ago, first as a player at the national level, then a top university student-athlete and finally as a national coach. Two of her players went on to achieve a junior world ranking of #20.

Over a 13-year period, Engineer has played extensively at the national level, winning a gold medal in the National Junior Games and also won the Silver medal in the Thailand University Games. She truly understands the tennis and study requirements having been in this role as a university student player and will provide valuable assistance to head coach Burzis Kanga through her experience.

Her accomplishments as a coach include ground-breaking work with The Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand, which was the most successful tennis development program in her native country. Due to her extensive association with Thailand’s players and International coaches, she has an insightful mind for player development, problem solving and managing teams in competition.
