Kenyon Spears

Kenyon Spears enters his third season with the New Orleans Privateers men's basketball program, charged as Mark Slessinger's top assistant and recruiting coordinator.

Spears joins the Privateers' coaching staff following a stint at Brown University as well as Wagner and his alma mater, Lamar.

A 2001 graduate of Lamar with a bachelor of science degree in communications, Spears was a four-year letterman, a team captain as a senior and helped the Cardinals advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2000 following a successful run through the Southland Conference tournament. To cap-off his career, Spears was named the Chevrolet Player of the Game in an NCAA tournament contest against Duke.

Upon graduation, Spears joined the staff at Lamar, assisting the Cardinals from 2002-2004 before joining head coach Mike Deane at Wagner in 2005, first as an assistant and then a Associate Head Coach.  

During his tenure at the Northeast Conference school, Spears was part of a staff which set school-records for wins (23) and conference winning percentage (.833) in 2007-08. Spears helped develop two first-team All-NEC performers, including the nation’s fourth-leading rebounder, while at Wagner..

A native of Nome, Texas, Spears currently resides in New Orleans.
