FIRST SEASON: 2019-20
Privateer Alumnus Cory Dixon '14 will return to the University of New Orleans is the assistant men's basketball coach for the Privateers. Dixon was hired as the New Orleans director of basketball operations and on-campus recruiting back in 2019 before joining the Birmingham Squadron in 2022.
Dixon spent the last year with the Birmingham Squadron, an NBA G League team and New Orleans Pelicans affiliate, as player development assistant and video coordinator. Dixon worked under the leadership of head coach TJ Saint.
As director of basketball operations and on-campus recruiting at New Orleans, Dixon helped the Privateers advance to the 2022 College Basketball Classic and finished the season with an 18-14 record. Dixon transitioned into the role after originally joining the staff as director of player development and internal operations back in 2019.
Dixon also had the unique distinction of being the color analyst in 2019-20 on the Privateers Sports Network and NASH Icon 106.1 FM. You'd be hard pressed to find someone with more knowledge of New Orleans basketball and Mark Slessinger as Dixon played for Sless at Northwestern State and then UNO, and then joined the staff after a professional playing career.
As a player, Dixon earned all-Southland honors in 2014 after pacing the Privateers with 13.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. In his two seasons, he averaged 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Slessinger also coached Dixon in the 2009-10 season at Northwestern State as assistant coach. Following his collegiate career, Dixon played professionally in Australia, Belgium, England, and Canada.
The Argyle Texas native earned his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of New Orleans in 2014.
Dixon resides in Gentilly and is pursuing his master's degree at New Orleans.
