The Sun Belt Conference embarks on its 30th season
of athletic competition in 2005-2006, and today the conference announced its All-Time Men's Basketball teams. Thirty players were selected for the team and UAB's Gene Bartow was chosen as the All-Time Men's Coach, while Charlotte's Cedric Maxwell was selected as the All-Time Men's Basketball Player.
A 26-member media panel made the selections. The 30 member Sun Belt Conference men's team features 21 players who were NBA draft choices, including 18 players who were selected in the first two rounds (8 fi rst round, 10 second round). The team also features 25 players who earned All-America honors,
20 players who were named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, and an Academic All-American. Twelve schools have players on the all-time team, led by Western Kentucky with five.

Wayne Cooper (New Orleans, 1974-1978)
Cooper was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 1977-1978 and was an All-Sun Belt Conference performer (1st team) in 1976-1977. He was selected to
the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Team of the Century, one of only two UNO players to receive this honor. Cooper was inducted into the Louisiana
Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992. He led the Sun Belt Conference in rebounds, averaging 12.7 per game in the 1977-1978 season. He
blocked 55 shots during the 1977-1978 season and averaged 35.7 minutes to lead the team. He led the team in scoring, averaging 18.1 pts. per game in 1977-1978.
He ranks 12th all-time in UNO history with 1,209 points. He is 2nd all-time in UNO history with games of 10 or more points and 10 or more rebounds per contest.
He ranks 3rd all-time in rebounds with 920. He is 7th all-time in rebounds per game (9.4). He ranks 6th all-time in games of 10 or more points (66). He ranks
3rd all-time in blocked shots (183).
Ervin Johnson (New Orleans, 1989-93)
Johnson was named Basketball Times 2nd Team All-American for 1992-93 and 3rd team All-American by Basketball Weekly and United Press International. He was
named Honorable Mention All-American for the same season by the Associated Press. Johnson was named MVP of the NABC All-America Game in 1993. Ervin
was named All District 8 for 1990-91, 1991-92, and 1992-93. Johnson was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year for the 1992-93 season. He was All-Sun Belt
Conference for 1991-92 and 1992-93. He was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week 3 times combined from1991-93. Johnson was the Louisiana Player of
the Year in 1992-93 and was All-Louisiana in 1990-91 and 1991-92. Johnson shot 62% from the fi eld in 1992-1993 while averaging 11.9 rebounds per contest. In
1991-1992, he averaged 11.1 rebounds per game. Johnson blocked 81 shots in 1991-1992 and 77 shots in 1992-1993. Johnson is 2nd all-time in scoring in UNO history with 1,608 pts., 1st all-time in fi eld goal percentage (59%), 1st all-time with games of 10 or more points and 10 or more rebounds (55), 1st all-time in rebounds (10.5), 2nd in rebounds per game (10.5), 3rd all-time in games with 10 or more points (81), 8th all-time in steals (109), 2nd all-time in games played (123), and 1st all-time in blocked shots (294). Johnson led the Privateers in scoring, rebounds, fi eld goal percentage, and blocked shots in 1991-1992 and 1992-1993. He had his number 40 retired at halftime of the UNO vs. Iowa State game December 29, 1997 at Lakefront Arena.
Hector Romero (New Orleans, 2001-03)
Forward- Romero averaged 20.2 pts. and 10.2 rebounds in the 2001-2002 season and was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. Hector is 17th all-time
in scoring in UNO history (1,042 pts.) He fi nished 6th all-time in pts. per game in UNO history with 19.3. He is 5th all-time in games of 10 or more points and 10
or more rebounds (double-doubles) with 29. He averaged 10 rebounds per game over two seasons, 4th in UNO history. He had 27 games with 20 or more points.
Romero led the team in scoring, rebounds, and fi eld goal percentage in both the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 season. He was named first team All-Sun Belt Conference in 2002-2003, when he averaged 18.3 pts. and 9.1 rebounds. Romero was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press for the 2001-2002 season and was part of the FIBA World Championships team for his native Venezuela in 2002. He was the Louisiana Player of the Week for 12/17-12/22/01.
He was named Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year for 2001-2002. He was named first team All-Louisiana in both 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 and was the
Newcomer of the Year for the 2001-2002 season.
