Swimming Picks Up a Pair of Victories

The University of New Orleans women's swimming team picked up a pair of victories Saturday in an invitational with Centenary, Arkansas-Little Rock and Ouachita Baptist.

UNO defeated Centenary 129-67 and Arkansas-Little Rock 138-36, while dropping a 107-89 decision to Ouachita Baptist.

“It was such a wonderful feeling to take a couple of wins,” Coach Ashley Tappin said. “I was even more impressed with our team in how they supported each other and pulled together to achieve what they did.”

Sarah Gros won a pair of events in the freestyle for the Privateers. Gros won the 500 freestyle in a time of 55.22 and followed that up with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:56.35).

The Privateers took the top spots in the 100 backstroke as Tory Sciortino (1:01.29) claimed first and Carina Morrel (1:02.14) was second.

Erica Granesater impressively won two events in both the breaststroke and butterfly. Granesater was first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.15 and claimed top honors with a 1:00.63 outing in the 100 butterfly.

Briana Taylor came within one second of her own school record in the 400 individual medley (4:51.50) for a third place finish.

Lindsey Townsend took third in the 500 freestyle (5:28.86).

Both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams finished second behind Ouachita Baptist, but were ahead of both Centenary and Arkansas-Little Rock.
