Swimming Breaks Five School Records in 143-85 Win Over Delta St.

The University of New Orleans women's swimming team broke five school records as they defeated Delta State 143-85 Saturday.

“It was a pretty neat experience to watch our kids step up and win a meet 10 days before conference,” Coach Ashley Tappin said. “Our girls knew that they had to step up today and they came up big with a win in what has been a bizarre year.”

Sarah Gros broke a pair of school records in her freestyle events. Gros set a new school standard by eight seconds in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:47.41 and followed that performance with a new school best in the 500 freestyle (5:18.01). Alissa Dundes finished third in the 1000 freestyle for a personal best time of 12:23.86.

Erika Gransater continued the record breaking day with a 59.46 second place finish in the 100 butterfly. Teammates Carina Morell (1:00.77) and Lindsey Townsend (1:01.46) took third and fourth in the event.

Gransater broke a second school mark by finishing the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:08.13.

The final school record to fall on the day was a team effort as the 200 freestyle relay team finished the race in 1:47.37 to take first place.

Ashley McClelland took first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.32, while Cathryn Garvey was first in the 100 freestyle (55.42).

Courtney Hamilton had a personal best 2:14.08 in the 200 individual medley.

Townsend and Tory Sciortino swept the top two spots in the 200 freestyle with respective personal bests of 1:59.80 and 2:00.97.

The Privateers will train next week in preparation for the Sun Belt Conference meet that takes place Feb. 16-18 in Denver.
