ATLANTA, Ga. ? Despite falling in dual-meet action, the University of New Orleans swimming team had some strong individual performances at Georgia Tech last Saturday and Sunday.
The Privateers fell to Emory 177-54 and to North Florida 125-112.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, which included teams from Georgia Tech, UNF, Emory and UNO, the Privateer quarter of Ashley McClelland, Tess Sweatman, Kate Garvey and Sarah Gros finished third with a time of 3:39.05 ? less than four seconds behind first-place Georgia Tech.
Gros was the low Privateer in the 1000 freestyle, capturing third with a time of 10:43.98.
In the 200 backstroke, Tory Sciortino placed fourth after clocking a 2:11.17, while Garvey was third in the 100 freestyle (54.43). McClelland was fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.91).
The UNO 400 medley relay squad ? consisting of McClelland, Garvey, Brianna Taylor and Carina Morell ? captured fourth place with a 25.91 time.
UNO will return to the pool on Jan. 26 and 27 at the LSU Invitational before hosting Houston on Sunday. The meet will take place at Tulane's Reily Center.
