UNO Swimming Opens Season Dropping Duals Against Centenary, Henderson State

SHREVEPORT, La - The University of New Orleans women's swim team dropped dual meets against Centenary (81-41) and Henderson State (71-51) on Saturday afternoon to open the 2007-2008 season for the Privateers.

Ashley McClelland won the 100 back against both schools with a mark of 1:00.42 while defeating Centenary in the 200 back with a time of 2:11.31.

Sarah Gros won three events against HSU taking the 200 free (1:59.32), 500 free (5:20.23) and 1000 free (10:52.89).

In the 100 free against HSU, Cathryn Garvey hit the wall at the same time as a member of the Lady Reddies, tying for first in the event with a time of 56.49.

"With this being the first meet, we got a good chance to see where our team," said head coach Randy Horner. "Now we know what direction we need to take in our preparation to move forward towards a successful season."

UNO will hit the pool again in two weeks when they head to the University of Houston for the Houston Invitational on Oct. 26 and 27.
