Lady Privateers Pick Up Road Win at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La - The University of New Orleans won their first road contest of the season and second straight game to open the season in a 75-51 win over McNeese State on Friday night.

The victory improved UNO to 2-0 on the season as the Lady Privateers' 24 point margin of victory was the largest winning margin for the Lady Privateers since a 79-53 win over McNeese State on Nov. 22, 2003.

UNO was led by Talishia Young who notched the first Lady Privateers double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes. Le'Della English and Brittany Helm added 10 each for UNO.

McNeese, falling to 0-3 on the season, was paced by Ne'Aisha Anderson who had 17 points. Brittany Boone and Conceita Cutrerer had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

UNO took advantage of scoring in the paint, outscoring the Cowgirls 16-2 inside during the first half and picking up the pace to finish with a 48-2 for the game.

To start the second half, the primary lighting in the Burton Coliseum went out, but the two head coaches agreed to play on. With the lights warming up during the first few minutes of the half, Young turned her game on, scoring eight of the team's first 10 points of the second half.

Young would go on to have 18 points and six rebounds in the second the half after only have four points and four rebounds in the opening half.

After falling behind 4-0 to open the game, UNO went on a 16-5 run to take a 16-9 lead, that they would never relinquish. McNeese would pull within six at 23-17 before a Andrea Williams free throw followed by a Jada Frazier three-pointer pushed the Lady Privateers advantage to 10 points.

The Lady Privateers will be back on the road on Monday when they face Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. at 6:30 p.m.
