Privateers Shoot Well Again in Win Over La. Tech

Box Score

BILOXI, Miss. -- Bo McCalebb scored 24 points and was one of five Privateers in double figures as New Orleans wrapped up the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic with an 81-72 win over Louisiana Tech on Thursday.

Shaun Reynolds had 12 points while T.J. Worley and Kyndall Dykes had 11 each, as UNO (9-2) finished the three-day tourney 2-1. James Parlow had 10 points -- all in the first half.

The Privateers shot a season-high 57 percent from the field and had eight 3-pointers. McCalebb was 10-for-13 from the field.

It was the second straight night UNO shot better than 55 percent. The Privateers shot 56 percent in Wednesday's 103-74 victory over Alcorn State.

"It is just a matter of knocking down shots," said UNO head coach Joe Pasternack. "For most of the season, we have gotten the open looks but just didn't knock them down. The last two nights, we have."

The Privateers shot 64 percent in the first half, helping UNO to a 46-35 halftime lead.

La. Tech (2-9) trailed by 13 early in the second half but got back into it thanks to strong 3-point shooting. The Bulldogs hit 12 treys -- seven in the second half -- and got the margin down to 56-53 with 9:30 to play.

But UNO went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead back to double figures. The Bulldogs did not get the lead under five the rest of the way.

Kyle Gibson led La. Tech with a game-high 27 points.

The Privateers will open up Sun Belt Conference play at home on Saturday, hosting Arkansas State at 7 p.m. at the Human Performance Center.
