Box Score NEW ORLEANS -- James Parlow had a season-high 25 points and seven 3-pointers to help New Orleans open up Sun Belt Conference play with an 84-78 win over visiting Arkansas State on Saturday.
Bo McCalebb had 22 points, and Kyndall Dykes added 12 to help UNO (10-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) to its third straight win. The Privateers won their SBC debut for the fifth time in the last six years.
Parlow, who had been shooting just 33 percent from the field entering the game, went 8-for-13 overall and 7-for-10 from beyond the arc.
P.J. Keaton came off the bench to lead ASU (5-6, 1-1 Sun Belt) with 15 points. Kewain Gant had 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Ifeayni Koggu had 14 points and Shawn Morgan had 13.
Both teams had strong nights from the field. ASU shot 58 percent overall ? 62 percent in the first half ? while UNO hit at a 53 percent clip. The Privateers took advantage of 15 ASU turnovers, though, and scored 25 points off Indian miscues.
UNO committed just nine turnovers.
ASU led 9-3 four minutes into the game before the Privateers went on a 10-0 run during the next two minutes. ASU, which never regained the lead, trailed 47-35 at halftime.
McCalebb and Parlow combined for 31 points in the first half and were 10-for-15 from the field. Parlow had five 3-pointers.
UNO led by as many as 13 in the second half, however ASU closed to within 67-61 with 7:58 remaining. But the Indians could get no closer than five the rest of the way.
The Indians played their fifth straight game without leading scorer Adrian Banks, who is suspended until January for a violation of team rules. The Indians are 3-2 without the All-Sun Belt standout.
UNO, which was playing its fourth game in five days, went 0-2 against ASU last year.
