BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of New Orleans stepped out of Sun
Belt play, dropping a 73-46 game to No.8 ranked LSU on Sunday afternoon.
UNO (7-5), dropping their first contest in three games was led by
Le'Della English, who scored 15 points.
Andrea Williams netted a season-high with 10 points while
Jada Frazier added nine.
Candice McGee led the Lady Privateers on the boards with eight as UNO out-rebounded LSU 44-34.
LSU (10-3) was led by Quianna Chaney with 14 points while RaShonta LeBlanc had 12 and Kristen Morris had 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Frazier made a jumper to open scoring in the game before LSU scored 13 straight points to take a commanding 13-2 lead. LSU would extend their lead to 18 points at 35-17 before a English three-pointer started a 7-2 run by the Lady Privateers to bring the LSU lead down to 13.
English had a strong first half, shooting 4 of 6 from the field including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc to give her 10 first half points. Williams surpassed her season-high in the first 20 minutes of the game, scoring six points in the opening half, surpassing her previous season-high of five points from the opener against Stephen F. Austin.
The Lady Privateers, who shot 57.7% in the second half of their previous game to rally from 17 points down against Arkansas State, carried over their hot shooting into the first half against LSU, making 10 of their 18 shots for a 55.6% shooting clip. The Lady Tigers were led into the break by LeBlanc, who scored 10 points in the first half including two three-pointers as LSU would lead 40-24.
LeBlanc and English started the second half right where they left off, trading baskets to open play after the break. English's basket was followed by a Frazier three-pointer to cut LSU's lead down to 13 at 42-29. The Lady Tigers would respond, pushing the lead up to 21 at 57-38 after making four straight shots following a 3 of 13 start from the field to open the second half.
LSU would push the lead to a game-high 27 at 73-46 as they dropped UNO to 7-2 in games played in the Pelican State this season.
UNO continues out of conference play with a 7:30 p.m contest on Wednesday night in Hammond, La. when they take on Southeastern Louisiana.
