CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of New Orleans women's swimming team
nearly doubled the school record for most dual wins when they defeated
two of the three teams participating in the Delta State Quad Meet on
Saturday afternoon.
UNO (5-11) defeated Lambuth by a score of 187-33 and Sun Belt rival UALR 177-41 to surpass the three wins achieved by the 2005-06 and 2006-07 squads. The win over UALR also established the record for most wins by the Privateers against foes from the highest level of NCAA competition with their fourth Division I victory of the season. In the other dual of the quad, UNO fell to DSU by a score of 142-99.
Sarah Gros started things off to a strong start with a win in the 150 free with a time of 1:28.38 while
Ashley McClelland kept them going with a victory in the 50 back with a mark of 27.90. McClelland later added wins in the 75 back (44.34) and 100 IM (1:02.06).
Other wins include
Cathryn Garvey in the 75 free (40.51) and
Lindsey Townsend in the 300 free (3:02.67).
The Privateers continue in the pool when they face Rice on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m and Houston at 12 p.m on Jan. 26.
