ATLANTA - The University of New Orleans men's and women's swimming and diving teams swam in the Georgia Tech Quad meet, competing against Georgia Southern, Miami, Western Kentucky and host GT on Saturday afternoon.
While the women dropped all three duals and the men fell in their sole dual, the team had some season best performances in the pool, highlighted by the women's 200 free relay team.
Catalina Mendieta led off the team, which finished with a time of 1:38.26 as Mendieta's lead off effort of 24.77 put her third amongst 50 free swimmers this year for the Privateers.
Ashley McClelland swam the 50 free to a time of
24.75, her fastest time in the event this year and the second fastest
for a UNO swimmer in the event.
Both efforts topped those of
GSU, as well as wins over the Eagles in both diving events by
Kelly
Swartzbaugh,
Cristina Lay in the 200 IM and
Lindsey Townsend in the 500
free.
On the men's side, two-time Sun Belt Conference Diver of
the Week
Jonathan Field finished third in the 3-meter diving event with a score of
280.40, the school-record in the event. He later finished fourth in the
1-meter diving event with a score of 225.75, not far off his season
best.
Ben Solari swam 1:46.18 in the 200 free, the third fastest
time in the event on the season while
Jack McMahon placed in the same
spot amongst top times for the Privateers in the 200 fly, touching the
wall in 2:04.53.
The teams will both head to Cleveland, Miss. for a dual against Delta State on Nov. 22.
