Frazier Leads Lady Privateers to Season-Opening Win

NEW ORLEANS ? University of New Orleans senior guard Jada Frazier came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 22 seconds left, to lead the Lady Privateers to a 70-65 win over visiting McNeese State on Friday night at Lakefront Arena.

Frazier scored the game's final five points to help UNO (1-0) win its fourth straight season opener.

The Albany, Ga., product was one of four Lady Privateers to reach double figures and helped UNO outscore McNeese State's bench 28-9.

Nicole Holmes had 15 points for UNO, and Cookie Johnson had 11 points off the bench.

Ashlyn Baggett had a game-high 21 points for MSU (0-1) and scored 10 points during a 17-2 run in the final five minutes that helped Cowgirls rally from a 15-point deficit to tie the contest at 65-65 with 44 seconds to play.

But Frazier came up with a 3-pointer right in front of the UNO bench to give the Lady Privateers the lead again and made both free throws with 6.6 seconds left to ice it.

The game did not seem headed for the late heroics. UNO, which shot 64 percent in the second half, stretched its 30-25 halftime lead to double figures midway through the final half.

UNO, though, was victimized by some late turnovers and some strong 3-point shooting for MSU.

The Lady Privateers, who shot 47 percent overall, overcame 24 turnovers. MSU shot just 33 percent.

Caitlyn Baggett and Shante' Perry each added 14 points for MSU.

UNO will return to action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Southeastern Louisiana.
