Privateers Get 22 Hits to Roll Past Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. ? The University of New Orleans baseball team scored 12 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 20-1 win at Nicholls State on Wednesday.

Johnny Giavotella and Alan Harris had three hits each, and eight different players had multiple hits to pace UNO (2-2).

T.J. Baxter and Josh Vander Hey combined for four hits and five RBIs, as UNO tallied its largest margin of victory since a 19-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Feb. 17, 2006.

The Privateers had 22 hits overall.

UNO senior right-hander Bryan Cryer (1-0) got the Privateer hurlers back on track, tossing six innings while allowing just one run on four hits. Three UNO relievers combined to allow one hit and striking out seven during the final three innings.

Jacob Sullivan got the loss for NSU (0-5).

The Privateers put the game away in their first at-bat. UNO's first six hitters reached base, capped by Vander Hey's two-run double to make it 5-0. Harris later added an RBI single to make it 6-0 before the Colonels got to bat.

After scoring a pair of runs in the second inning, the Privateers added four more in the third keyed by an RBI single from Joey Butler (2-for-3, RBI, two runs scored) and a run-scoring triple by Baxter.

NSU recorded just one hit in the first five innings before finally getting an RBI single from Zac Bone to make it 13-1.

UNO put up five runs in the seventh inning.
