NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana-Monroe went on a 23-5 run in the middle of the
game that the University of New Orleans women's basketball team could
not overcome in a 61-57 ULM win on Saturday afternoon.
UNO (12-11, 6-6 SBC) was led in scoring by
Le'Della English, who scored 22 points.
Brittany Helm added 18 while
Talishia Young scored 10 for the Lady Privateers.
ULM (15-8, 8-4 SBC) had a pair of scorers in double figures with Shannon Lloyd and LaJeanna Howard scoring 16 and 15, respectively.
The Lady Privateers opened the game with a 9-0 run. English scored eight of her 12 first half points as the team built an early 14-6 lead over the visiting Warhawks.
UNO would hold an 18-10 lead before going without a made field goal for just under four minutes as the Warhawks closed the gap to 20-16.
Lloyd, who scored 10 points during the opening 20 minutes would give ULM their first lead of the game at 23-22. The Warhawks scored the final seven points of the half to take a 30-24 lead into the break.
ULM continued their run in the second half as they opened up a 17 point lead at 49-32 to complete a 23-5 run. The Lady Privateeres responded with a 12-0 run of their own to get within five at 49-44 as they held the Warhawks without a shot from the field for six minutes of play.
UNO would make a run at the end of the game to get within three at 60-57 at Helm would score the final 10 points for the Lady Privateers.
The next game for the Lady Privateers is a Wednesday tilt against SBC rival Arkansas State. Tip in Jonesboro, Ark. is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
