Hot-Shooting UALR Cruises Past Privateers

NEW ORLEANS ? Arkansas-Little Rock guard Steven Moore scored 13 points, and the visiting Trojans shot 58 percent from the field in a 62-46 win at New Orleans on Saturday.

Shane Edwards had 11 points, as the Trojans (11-5, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference) overcame 20 turnovers in winning their fourth league game in five outings.

Darrian McKinstry tallied 17 points off the bench for UNO (7-9, 3-3), and Kyndall Dykes had 13 points.

But the Privateers shot just 32 percent in the second half and were just 5-for-16 (31 percent) from the free-throw line.

The road team has now won five straight in the regular season series.

UALR led by as many as 10 in the first half thanks to some hot shooting. The Trojans shot 60.9 percent and led 33-27 at halftime.

UALR started the second half with a 7-2 run and built a 40-29 advantage with 14:58 to play. UNO could never get the lead under double figures.

The Trojans scored 40 of its 62 points in the paint and got 32 points off the bench. UALR made four more free throws than the Privateers despite attempting six fewer charities.

UNO, which committed 16 turnovers, shot 50 percent from the field in the first half but finished at 40 percent due to the second-half struggles. UALR out-rebounded the Privateers 28-20.

UNO will wrap up a three-game homestand at 7 p.m. on Monday against cross-town rival Loyola (N.O.). It will mark the final non-conference game of the year.
