MOBILE, Ala. - The University of New Orleans women's tennis team fell for the third time in their first three matches, dropping a 7-0 dual match to No. 56 South Alabama at the Lubel Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
UNO (0-3, 0-2 Sun Belt) fell for the fifth time in five meetings against USA, who was opening their dual season on Sunday.
The Privateers put up one win on the day as
Ceara Howey and
Kir Kemp teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles, defeating the USA (1-0, 1-0 SBC) pairing of Sylvanie Spangenberg and Marie Boura 8-4.
USA won all six of the singles' match to close out the victory, but would not be able to do so without a fight from the UNO women.
Cassandra Escobar opened up her No. 2 singles match with a first-set victory before falling in three sets to Michaela Babicova 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
Pia Dozo-Moreno went to a tie-breaker in the opening set, falling 7-6, 6-3 to Boura in the No. 5 singles match while Kemp put up a fight in her first frame against Spangenberg in No. 1 singles, before dropping a 7-5, 6-2 match.
The UNO women are off until Jan. 31 when they will take on SBC rival Louisiana-Lafayette at 12 p.m. The match at the University Tennis Center is the first of nine straight home duals.
