NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans women's tennis team won for the second straight match, topping Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
UNO (2-3, 1-2 Sun Belt) started the dual, by winning the three doubles' matches to secure the doubles' point. The matches were all competitive with the Privateer women winning each pro-set by just two games.
Cassandra Escobar and Kozue Matsumoto defeated Julie Mazionva and Milou Israel 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Ceara Howey teamed with Kir Kemp while Pia Dozo-Moreno partnered Amber Garza to win their doubles' matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, by 9-7 scores.
The momentum from the closely-fought doubles' matches carried over to the singles' competition as UNO won 5 of 6 matches contested.
Mazinova defeated Sofija Karalic 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the lone Ragin' Cajuns' victory.
Escobar and Matsumoto each went three sets with their foes. Escobar defeated Israel in No. 2 singles' 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 while Matsumoto defeated Angela Dangond 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles' match.
Kemp, Howey and Garza closed out ULL with straight sets wins in the No. 4-6 singles' contests.
UNO will look to extend their winning streak to three matches when they welcome Alcorn State to the UTC on Wednesday. The dual, which coincides with the men's match against the Braves, is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
