Blue Tops White in Lady Privateers' Annual Scrimmage

NEW ORLEANS - Tiffina' Bennett's scored her only four points in the final 70 seconds to lift the Blue squad to a 33-29 victory over the White in the annual University of New Orleans women's basketball Blue-White Game at Lakefront Arena on Friday afternoon.

With the score tied at 29, Nicole Holmes forced a steal and passed the ball to a streaking Bennett for the go-ahead basket to make it 31-29. Rachele Monroe forced a steal on the ensuing White possession, leading to another Holmes to Bennett scoring opportunity to produce the final score.

Candice McGee scored nine points in the first half on way to a game-high 16 points and six rebounds for the Blue team.

Leading the White team were freshmen Chaniese Turner and Talisha Bridges, who scored 10 and 9 points, respectively. Bridges doubled as the White squad's leading rebounder, pulling down four, including three on the offensive glass.

The scrimmage was part of a Lunch with the Lady Privateers event, in which fans were treated to lunch, the scrimmage and a chance to meet the 2009-10 UNO women's basketball team. Head coach Amy Champion concluded the festitivites by giving a tour of the recently refurbished locker rooms and a brief 'Chalk Talk'.
