NEW ORLEANS - Freshman guard Raymond Taylor scored a game-high 20 points, and Florida Atlantic went on a 16-0 run in the second half as the Owls took a 66-48 win at New Orleans on Monday night.
Sanchez Hughley and Brett Royster had 11 points each, and the Owls went 14-for-15 from the free throw line in the second half to help FAU (5-4, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference) snap a 10-game Sun Belt road losing streak.
Billy Humphrey led UNO (5-4, 0-1) with 12 points, but he was the only Privateer in double figures. UNO shot just 34 percent overall and 26 percent in the second half.
It was the first time the Privateers dropped their SBC home opener since Dec. 28, 2001.
The Owls shot 51 percent in the first half and grabbed a 34-28 halftime lead. FAU led by as many as 10 points in the opening frame and got 11 points from Taylor.
The Privateers rallied with a 10-0 run in the second half and held a 44-41 lead with 13:24 to play following a Humphrey jumper.
It was the last UNO field goal of the night, as FAU outscored the Privateers 25-4 the rest of the way.
The Owls shot just 38 percent in the final half.
UNO will continue SBC play on Thursday at Troy.
