NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans built an 18-point first
half lead and extended their home winning streak to three games with a
57-43 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday afternoon at Lakefront
Arena.
UNO (12-12, 7-6 SBC) clinched back-to-back winning home seasons with the win, the first time the Lady Privateers had accomplished the feat since a string of six years from 1989-95.
Jada Frazier topped the UNO effort with 18 points with
Brittany Helm adding another 11 points and a career-high matching nine rebounds.
Candice McGee led all players with 10 rebounds while swatting a career-high six blocks.
ULM (12-11, 5-7 SBC) received 15 points from Lottie Moore, most of which coming on 7 of 9 shooting from the charity stripe.
The Lady Privateers used a pair of opening half runs to take a 34-24 lead into the break. Frazier had 10 points and Holmes added eight during the first 20 minutes as UNO shot 50 percent from the field.
Frazier scored the first five points including a jumper right off the opening tip, part of an 11-0 UNO run. The Warhawks responded with six straight points before the Lady Privateers reeled off 10 straight points to extend the lead to 21-6.
Three-pointers fueled the early surge as Felder, Frazier and Holmes connected on two shots from beyond the arc apiece as the team opened 6 of 6 from long-range, building a lead up an 18-point lead at 32-14 with 4:33 remaining in the half. ULM scored 8 of 10 points to enter the break.
The Warhawks brought the UNO lead down into the single-digits early in the second half. ULM would not be able to keep the lead there as they made just two of their 14 attempts from the field during the first 12 minutes of the half.
The Lady Privateers would extend the lead out to 13 on a Frazier three-pointer with 1:59 remaining in the game and the visiting squad would be forced to foul down the stretch as UNO closed out the contest.
North Texas will be the final game of a three-game homestand for the Lady Privateers as the Mean Green visit the Lakefront Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
