MONROE, La. ? Louisiana-Monroe swept a doubleheader against the University of New Orleans baseball team on Sunday by scores of 5-4 and 4-1.
Jordy Poche helped the Warhawks at the plate and on the mound as ULM (10-6, 3-3 Sun Belt Conference) swept UNO (5-11, 1-5) in a three-game regular season series for the second straight year.
Poche tallied three hits, including a solo home run, and was three outs away from a complete game on the mound. Ben Soignier went 4-for-8 with two RBIs on the day, and Matt Laird added a two-run home run and three runs scored.
Jerad Comarda was the bright spot for a struggling UNO offense, belting two home runs. His solo shot in the ninth inning of Game Two helped the Privateers avoid the shutout.
But UNO was held to just six hits in the series finale and have now scored four runs or less in nine of their last 10 games.
Joe Zimmermann (0-2) got the loss on the mound for UNO in the first game, while Cory Myers (0-2) got the defeat in the second game.
Justin Anderson (3-1) got the win in the opener after scattering 10 hits but giving up just three runs in 5.1 innings. In the nightcap, Poche (2-1) allowed five baserunners in the first eight innings before running to a mini-jam in the ninth.
But reliever Josh Miller got a double play and a flyout ? needing only four pitches ? to close out the series.
UNO, which has dropped 11 of its last 13 games, will host Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
