NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's tennis team will go into Sunday's match against Austin Peay seeking their 10th win of the season after defeating Jackson State 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
UNO (9-5) won the doubles' point in convincing fashion to get their dual off to a solid start against JSU (5-4).
Calvin Kemp and Ben Smith won their third straight match, defeating Vishesh Bhatia and Nicholas Crawford 8-0 at No.1.
Abdelrahman Zaki teamed with Guilherme Rebolo for the first time and defeated Sergio Salinas and Arturo Jimenez 8-3 at No. 2 while Jose Gaspar and Vinay Kamineni closed out the doubles' play with an 8-0 win over Jiman Nelson and Patrick Steel 8-0.
In singles, the results were much of the same. On three courts, the Privateers did not allow a single game for the Tigers.
Kemp blanked Nelson at No. 1 for his fourth straight victory while Gaspar and Zaki did the same to Crawford and Steel at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The win for Zaki improved his record to 2-0 since making his debut against nationally-ranked LSU.
Other winners included Kamineni at No. 2, Smith at No. 3 and Oliver Cuthill at No. 4. Each of the trio only allowed two games to their foes from JSU.
The Privateer men will be back in action against the Governors of AP on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the UTC.
