NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans saw its two-match win
streak to start the season come to an end in a 7-0 loss to Tulane at
the Goldring Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Tulane (3-1) jumped out on UNO (2-1) by claiming all three doubles' matches in convincing fashion.
The Green Wave's No. 1 tandem of Mariam Kurdaze and Emma Levy defeated
Kozue Matsumoto and Cassandra Escobar 8-3 with Lindsay Dvorak and Emma
Helisten clinching the doubles' point with an 8-2 victory at No. 2 over
Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic. The No. 3 pairing of Elizabeth
Hamlin and Hila Elster finished off the doubles' sweep with an 8-2 win
over Ceara Howey and Amber Garza.
Singles' action was not any better for the Privateers, who lost in straight sets on every court.
The Tulane singles' sweep started on a bad note for UNO as Matsumoto
retired down 4-0 to Kurdaze in the first set. Matsumoto had missed the
season opener with an injury prior to making her season debut in the
UNO win over Southeastern Louisiana on Monday.
Elster made short work of Karalic at No. 6 by a 6-0, 6-0 score before
Helisten defeated Garza 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 5 court to clinch the match.
Other results included Hamlin over Escobar at No. 2 by a 6-4, 7-5
result, Levy over Martia on the No. 3 court by a 6-1, 6-4 verdict and
Dvorak posting a 6-4, 6-3 win over Howey.
The UNO women will have eight days off before resuming their spring
season on Feb. 19 at Northwestern State, before facing Stephen F.
Austin on a neutral court in Natchitoches, La. on Feb. 20.
