NATCHITOCHES, La. - Northwestern State cruised to a 7-0 victory over the University of New Orleans women's tennis team at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
The loss was the second straight for UNO (2-2), who were a player short due to injury and had to drop the No. 6 singles' and No. 3 doubles' match by default to NSU (2-1).
In doubles' competition, the Demons made short work of the Privateers. Olga Bazhanova and Adna Curukovic defeated
Cassandra Escobar and
Kristina Martic 8-3 on the No. 1 court while Martina Rubesova and Andrea Nedorostova blanked
Ceara Howey and
Amber Garza 8-0 at No. 2.
Singles' play also leaned in NSU's favor with the hosts winning each match on the day in straight sets.
Escobar, Garza, Martic and
Sofija Karalic all fell to 2-2 in singles' play on the season with Howey losing her fourth straight match to begin the 2010 dual campaign.
UNO will remain in Natchitoches, La. ahead of Saturday's 12 p.m. neutral site dual against Stephen F. Austin. SFA has not played since a Feb. 2 victory against Abilene Christian to even their record at 2-2.
