BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 37 LSU posted their second win of the day by
defeating the University of New Orleans 4-0 late Thursday night at 'Dub'
Robinson Stadium.
LSU (2-4) had previously defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1 before taking the court several hours later to send UNO (1-4) to their second straight defeat.
The Privateers dropped all three doubles' matches on way to losing the doubles' point for the fourth time in five duals this year.
Though UNO came out on the wrong side of the result in each of the matches, it was not without a fight.
Ben Smith and
Abdelrahman Zaki led as late as 5-4 before falling 8-5 to the LSU pair of James Turbervill and Julian Gauthier. At No. 1,
Benjamin Bouhana and
Stepan Siska fell in a tiebreaker to Neal Skupski and Roger Anderson 8-7 (3).
With the doubles' point in hand, the Tigers moved quickly to close out the dual win.
LSU won in straight sets at No. 6, No. 2 and No. 5 to close out the match. The other three matches were halted with the verdict already in hand for the hosts.
When UNO next takes the court, the Privateer men will make their long-awaited home debut against No. 72 Troy. The match against the Trojans is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start on Mar. 6 at the University Tennis Center.
