Baseball Starts Six-Game Road Trip at USM

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of New Orleans baseball team will kick off a six-game road trip at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Southern Mississippi.

The contest is part of a five-game week for the Privateers (3-9), who are in a stretch of playing 10 games in two weeks.

UNO will play at Southern on Wednesday before traveling to Louisiana-Monroe for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series. All games can be heard locally on WGSO 990 AM or online at WGSO.com.

The Privateers enter the week after dropping three games to Western Kentucky last weekend at Maestri Field.

UNO was leading in the ninth inning of the final two games before the Hilltoppers rallied for the sweep.

The Privateers went 1-1 in midweek games last week, with the offense combining for 27 runs in the two games.

UNO will start the week against a USM squad coming off its first-ever College World Series appearance. The Golden Eagles (10-4) have won six of their last seven, including a weekend sweep of Missouri State.

B.A. Vollmuth leads USM with a .400 average, two home runs and 16 RBIs. Joey Archer (.378, 2 HRs, 12 RBIs) and Taylor Walker (.377, 2 HRs, 13 RBIs) are also hitting above .350.

USM will likely start right-hander Geoffrey Thomas (0-1, 9.00 ERA).

The Privateers are led offensively by redshirt freshman Kevin Berry (.349, 5 RBIs) and Ryan Eden (.325, 1 HR, 4 RBIs).

UNO will start junior right-hander Cory Myers (0-1, 11.74). It will be Myers' third career appearance against USM. He has only allowed one run and five hits in seven career innings against the Golden Eagles.
