HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Mississippi tallied 13 hits and continued its recent hot streak in an 11-2 win over visiting New Orleans on Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park.
Adam Doleac and Chase Fowler each went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs, as USM (11-4) won for the seventh time in its last eight outings.
Freshman Geoffrey Thomas (1-1) picked up his first collegiate win after tossing 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander, who had struggled with his control in his first three outings, scattered eight hits and only walked two. He also struck out six batters.
The Golden Eagles, coming off a 2009 College World Series appearance, scored seven runs in the fourth inning.
Cory Myers (0-2) took the loss, giving up two runs (only one earned) in two innings.
Rodarrick Jones and John Thomas each had three hits for the Privateers (3-10). Clint Ourso hit a ninth-inning home run for UNO, which had 21 players see action -- including four pitchers.
UNO will continue a six-game road trip on Wednesday at Southern. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
