NEW ORLEANS - Murray Watts went 4-for-5 and tallied seven RBIs as
Arkansas State closed out a Sun Belt Conference series sweep on Sunday
afternoon with a 17-3 run-rule win against New Orleans at Maestri Field.
Giovanni Garcia scored four runs and Cody Pace came across home plate
three times as ASU (15-9, 6-3) won a series on the Lakefront for the
first time since 1995.
The Red Wolves were kept off the scoreboard in the first inning for the
first time this weekend as UNO (6-15, 1-8 SBC) starter Ricky Ott (1-1)
retired the side in order.
ASU's offense came to life over the next four innings, staking to a
16-3 lead after five innings, courtesy of six runs in each the fourth
and fifth. The six-run effort in the fourth ended the day for Ott, who
allowed nine runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Jacob Lee (3-2) was the winner for the Red Wolves, throwing all
seven innings and allowing three runs - two earned - on five hits.
One of the five hits was a Nick Schwaner two-run home run in the first
inning, giving the Privateers a 2-0 lead. Schwaner finished the game
2-for-3 with the other run coming from Rodarrick Jones, who scored in
the second inning on a Ryan Eden sacrifice fly.
UNO will turn its attention to Brown for games on Tuesday and Wednesday
at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be available on WGSO 990 AM and UNO Vision.
