Petello, Schwaner Rally UNO Past Brown

NEW ORLEANS - Mike Petello's two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth helped New Orleans rally for an 11-10 win over visiting Brown on Tuesday at Maestri Field.

Petello launched a two-run shot off Brown reliever Matt Kimball (0-2) to help the Privateers (7-15) snap a three-game losing streak.

Petello went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while Nick Schwaner hit two home runs and had six RBIs. The duo helped UNO overcame an early seven-run deficit.

Redshirt freshman Kevin Berry (2-0) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed just one hit and struck out six.

Pete Greskoff went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to pace Brown (2-12). He was one of six Bears to record at least two hits. Brown had 15 hits overall.

Brown had eight hits and scored seven runs in the first three innings off UNO starter Joe Zimermann. But the Privateers cut into the deficit with two runs in the third and four in the fourth, which included a three-run, opposite-field home run for Schwaner.

Trailing 10-7 in the eighth, Schwaner got UNO's final rally started with a two-run homer. Nolan Church (2-for-2, 3 runs) followed with a double down the right-field line, and Petello gave UNO its first lead of the game with a shot over the left-center field wall.

Berry struck out the side in the ninth to cinch it.

The two teams will wrap up the midweek series at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
