NEW ORLEANS - Jay Morris and Mike Petello hit back-to-back home runs to lead New Orleans to a 5-3 win over Brown on Wednesday at Maestri Field.
Morris hit a two-run home run in the second inning, and Petello followed with a solo shot as the Privateers (8-15) swept the two-game midweek series.
Kyle Maldonado added a solo home run in the eighth - his first career homer - as the UNO offense had nine hits (four for extra bases).
Maldonado was 2-for-2, while Kevin Berry and Nolan Church each had two hits.
Junior reliever Mats Mattson (2-1) was credited with the win, as the left-hander tossed two scoreless innings and struck out four. He was one of seven UNO pitchers on the night.
The Privateer hurlers combined for nine strikeouts.
Matt Boylan (0-2) got the loss for Brown (2-13) after allowing six hits and three runs in five innings. Pete Greskoff went 2-for-4, including an RBI double in the eighth.
UNO jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the second inning. Church led off the frame with a single up the middle before Morris hit his first home run of the season over the right-field wall.
Petello then crushed a 3-1 offering over the center field wall.
The UNO bullpen did the rest, as the relief corps did not allow an earned run until the ninth.
UNO will return to Sun Belt Conference play at 6 p.m. on Friday, opening a three-game series at South Alabama.
