UNO's Siska Wins Pair of Matches in 5-2 Dual Loss to USM

NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans men's tennis team was dealt their second loss in as many days, falling 5-2 to Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.

Despite losing the doubles' point to USM (9-10), the UNO (4-14) tandem of Stepan Siska and Ben Smith stepped up big at the No. 1 spot, claiming an 8-4 result against Markus Wessinghage and Julien Roussel.

In singles' play, Siska put up another victory, dispatching Diego Machuca 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 at the No. 2 position with Abdelrahman Zaki also winning, defeating Oscar Machucha 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 at No. 4. The win was the second on the weekend for Siska in singles' play, after he defeated Marquette's Mark Rutherford in straight sets on Saturday.

UNO narrowly missed a third win in the final match of the day as Roussel came back from a set down to defeat Ben Smith 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in a third-set tiebreaker.

The Privateers will close the regular season on Apr. 17 at 12 p.m. against cross-town foe Xavier. The dual will be the final in-season home match for senior Guilherme Rebolo as UNO will battle a Gold Rush team that is nationally ranked at the NAIA level.
