NEW ORLEANS - Southern Mississippi's Taylor Walker drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to help the Golden Eagles take a 3-2 win at New Orleans on Tuesday.
Walker, who went 1-for-3 and scored a run, capped a two-out rally that saw four straight USM hitters reach base off UNO reliever Kevin DeGrouttola (0-3).
B.A. Volmuth had two hits for USM (17-14), which snapped a four-game losing skid. Reliever Jay Myrick (2-0) was credited with the win. Collin Gargill worked a perfect ninth to claim his third save.
The two teams combined for just 11 hits, with UNO (10-21) managing five. The Privateers did draw five walks but left 10 runners on base.
Nick Schwaner homered for the third straight game, as the senior infielder hit a solo blast in the third inning off USM starter Geoffrey Thomas.
Jerad Comarda also went 2-for-3.
USM scored a run in the first without a hit. UNO starter Justin Cromartie walked Walker, who advanced to second on a balk and later moved to third on a wild pitch.
Adam Doleac brought Walker home with a sacrifice fly to put USM on the board.
The Privateers answered in the bottom of the inning thanks to a leadoff walk to Ryan Eden, who later scored on a walk pitch.
Doleac hit another sacrifice fly in the third to give USM a 2-1 lead before Schwaner tied it in the bottom of the frame.
UNO used four pitchers on the night, as the quartet combined to allow just six hits while striking out seven.
The Privateers will continue a five-game week with a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday contest at Auburn.
