TROY, Ala. - No. 65 Troy men's tennis team extended their win streak to
10 matches with a 4-0 victory over the University of New Orleans on
Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Shootout.
The second-seed in the tournament, Troy (15-3) won both completed doubles' matches against UNO (3-11).
Xavier Masson and Branko Weber were the first off the court with an 8-2 win over
Guilherme Rebolo and
Rohit Chivukula at No. 2 with Guilherme Sahadi and Anas Rouchdi closing out the doubles' point with an 8-4 win at No. 3 over
Abdelrahman Zaki and
Benjamin Bouhana.
UNO's No. 1 pair of
Stepan Siska and
Ben Smith led 7-5 against L. Henrique Grangeiro and Mario Rolemberg, but the match was called off once the host Trojans clinched the doubles' point.
In singles' play, Troy claimed the dual with wins at the No. 6, No. 3 and No. 4 courts to pick up the 4-0 decision.
Sahadi was a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chivukula at No. 6 while Smith could not produce his second straight singles' victory against Weber, falling 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 to the Troy player. The final victory for the Trojans came in a 6-2, 6-3 win by Masson over Zaki at No. 4.
The seventh-seeded Privateers will continue play in the consolation draw on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. against the sixth-seed Middle Tennessee, while Troy advances to face third-seeded Florida Atlantic in the championship semifinals. FAU defeated MT 4-0 in another quarterfinal match that occured on Friday.
Win or lose, UNO will play a second match at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday against either Western Kentucky or Louisiana-Lafayette.
