THIBODAUX, La. - Keith Kulbeth hit a two-run home run, capping a four-run fourth inning, as Nicholls State took a 6-3 win over visiting New Orleans on Wednesday.
Kulbeth and leadoff hitter Bear Comer each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, as the Colonels (18-18) won their third straight. Kevin Schlegel and Adam Miley also added two hits - part of an 11-hit night for Nicholls.
Jerad Comarda went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Privateers (10-26), but UNO was held to just three hits overall. Mike Petello also tallied an RBI single.
Andrew Velez (0-1) picked up the loss. The junior, who was making his second start of the year, allowed five runs (four earned) in four innings.
Nicholls took a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single by Miley, but the Privateers answered in the fourth - taking advantage of back-to-back Nicholls errors - with Petello's run-scoring single up the middle.
The Colonels, though, came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Comer got the scoring started with a two-run single before Kulbeth hit a two-run shot over the left-center field wall.
UNO used three pitchers overall. Left-hander Ricky Ott tossed two scoreless innings after relieving Velez in the fifth inning.
Nicholls left-hander Ryan Cooper (3-4) was credited with the win, and Brad Delatte picked up his fourth save.
The Privateers will host Troy in a Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Maestri Field. The three-game set kicks off a 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
