MOBILE, Ala. -- South Alabama scored nine runs during a three-inning stretch, and senior right-hander D.D. Hanks did the rest as the Jaguars took a 9-2 win over New Orleans on Friday in Sun Belt Conference play at Stanky Field.
Zach Grichor went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Hanks tossed his fourth complete game of the year to lead USA (19-10, 8-2 Sun Belt) to its fourth win in its last five outings.
Hanks (7-1) scattered 10 hits and struck out nine. He did not allow a run until the eighth inning.
His offense, meanwhile, did all its damage in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The Jaguars scored four runs in the third and two in the fourth off UNO starter
John Pivach (0-3) and added three more in the fifth.
Jake Overstreet and Clint Reynolds each tallied two hits and drove in a run. Reynolds also scored two runs.
Ryan Eden paced the Privateers (8-16, 1-9) with three hits, while
Nick Schwaner and
Rodarrick Jones each went 2-for-4. Schwaner and freshman
Johnny Thomas had RBI singles.
The two teams will continue the three-game series at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
