UNO Women Fall 4-1 to ULM in In-State Tennis Dual

MONROE, La. - The University of New Orleans women's tennis team dropped their fifth straight road match of the season, falling to ULM 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at Heard Stadium.

The win was the fourth in a row for ULM (13-3), who also improved to 6-0 at home.

On the wrong side of the result in their last six road duals, dating back to the 2009 season, UNO is now 5-11 on the season. The Privateer women last defeated a foe on the road on Apr. 7, 2009, when they defeated West Florida 5-2.

The dual started with the host Warhawks claiming both contested doubles' matches. Ana Burjaili and Vivian Polak posted an 8-1 win at No. 3 against Kristina Martic and Sofija Karalic with an 8-4 win by Claire Clark and Monica Winkel at No. 1 over Kozue Matsumoto and Cassandra Escobar closing out the doubles' point.

In singles' play, ULM won 3 of 4 completed matches.

Ceara Howey was the lone winner for the Privateers, defeating Sidney Bruscato 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. The win was the third in a row for the sophomore, who is 5-0 when playing at the No. 5 spot in head coach Burzis Kanga's line-up.

Clark defeated Matsumoto 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 court with Polak and Burjaili adding wins at No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively. The Burjaili win was the dual clincher, halting play between the two Sun Belt Conference rivals.

UNO will remain at home for the remainder of their schedule, hosting UTEP on Saturday at 10 a.m. before closing the regular season against crosstown foe Xavier on Apr. 17 at 12 p.m.
