NEW ORLEANS - Senior outfielder Craig Schnell went 3-for-4, including his first career home run, as New Orleans closed out the 2010 home schedule with an 8-4 win over Nicholls State on Tuesday.
Schnell drove in three runs, while Ryan Eden and Jerad Comarda each had a pair of RBIs, as UNO (12-34) snapped a five-game losing streak.
Andrew Richardson (1-3) picked up his first win of the season, going five innings and allowing just two runs and four hits. UNO had three relievers combine to throw four hitless innings.
The Privateers had 11 hits overall.
Adam Miley had an RBI double for Nicholls (22-25), and Beau Faulk tallied an RBI single. Brent Bonvillian (2-3) gave up three runs and two walks in an inning of work.
The Colonels jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Privateers scored six unanswered runs. Schnell led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to left field, and Eden slapped an RBI single to center field to score Clint Ourso.
Nicholls scored its final two runs in the seventh, but the Privateers answered with two runs of their own on a two-run single by Schnell.
UNO will play its final Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Middle Tennessee. The three-game set begins at 6 p.m. on Friday.
