Basketball Forces 27 Turnovers to Improve to 3-2

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans (3-2) swarmed its way to 18 steals and offensively, shot 58.3 percent to defeat Governors State University (4-7) 97-53 Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena.
 
The Privateers ran away in the second half, outscoring the Jaguars 48-16 in the dominating victory. The 18 steals tied for sixth most in a single game in program history.
 
Ezekiel Charles matched his total at UAB for his second consecutive 20-point game performance on 8-of-10 shooting and Damion Rosser followed with a career-high 18 points on 8-of-10. The duo combined for 11 rebounds. Scott Plaisance Jr. finished with 14 points, five rebounds and Amari Haynes came off the bench with 13 points and two steals. Troy Green and Lamont Berzat combined for eight assists and eight steals with zero turnovers.
 
FIRST HALF
Charles took over late with nine points in the final two minutes of the half to pace the Privateers to a 49-37 lead. Zeke finished 5-for-5 with 12 points but Rosser stole the show with three highlight reel dunks, concluding the first with 11 points. Green and Rosa dished out four assists apiece.
 
It was sloppy early for UNO with the Governors ahead 16-11 behind eight second chance points, but Charles and Rosser led the charge with Rosser dominating early and Zeke taking over late.
 
SECOND HALF
It was all UNO with the Privateers outscoring the Jaguars 48-16 with Haynes leading all with 11 points. Charles added eight points and five rebounds in the stanza.
 
New Orleans limited Governors to 26.1 percent shooting and forced 19 turnovers. The Privateers continued its full court trap and hustle play, highlighted by Larry Robinson III's dive into the end table in the closing seconds of the ballgame.

The Privateers host the University of Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lakefront Arena.
