Men's Tennis Defeated by Nationally Ranked Texas A&M

BATON ROUGE, La. – As expected, the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team (6-7) was in for a difficult challenge as they fell 7-0 to the #19 Texas A&M Aggies (14-3) on Saturday at the LSU Tennis Complex in a neutral site match.

Fresh off a conference win earlier in the day against LSU, the Aggies polished off the doubles point with victories at flight one and two. Texas A&M won 6-3 at the top flight and 6-2 at the second flight to clinch the opening point. Nicolas Kramer and Odysseas Papaioannou were down a break at 5-3 when the doubles point was decided.

In singles, Mats Westkamp pushed the 120th ranked singles player in the nation to a tiebreak in the second set. Hady Habib won 6-3, 7-6 to seal his match at flight one. The Aggies also picked up straight set victories across the board in all six flights. After Westkamp who won nine games, Kramer won a total of seven games during his match against Jack Pulliam.

Alex Vedri dropped only three games in his singles victory. Texas A&M entered the week after jumping nine spots in the latest poll. They previously had a win over the top ranked team in the nation in Ohio State.

The Privateers have six of their next eight at home, but the next match is on the road. New Orleans will open Southland play with the first of five conference matches. They will take on Lamar whom they defeated back in January. The match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start in Beaumont on Saturday, Mar. 23. The only other road match in that stretch is at Abilene Christian on the last day of March.
